After following her dream of pursuing law as a career path, Rehana Basson is finally where she belongs.

The Malmesbury resident has done various small courses in Business Studies and Project Management and also obtained diplomas in Management Assisting and Human Resourcing, but deep down knew law is where her passion lies.

Basson took the brave decision to quit her job at West Coast College to pursue her passion after receiving a call from a law firm informing her she had been chosen to complete her articles at the firm.

“The reason I decided to study law was to minimise the injustices some people face by not knowing their rights. I would like to play my part and contribute to making a change.”

She said she had an interest in criminal law and labour law, albeit only theoretical. But entering a corporate law environment that serves various spheres – property law, tax law, labour Law and more – this is likely to change.

“However, I do see myself specialising in labour law, for there are far too many unjust situations within organisations.”

Basson pursued her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) part-time through Unisa, starting her studies in 2016.

But having a demanding job meant she had to complete her modules in stages over a course of five years.

Not giving up, and facing a few obstacles along the way, Basson persevered and through trusting and believing in God, not to mention the support of her fiancé, family and friends, she has made it to where she is today.

With all the knowledge gained Basson says she will always lend a helping hand to those in her community and assist with legal advice.

During her articles she is looking forward to gaining experience and the knowledge from her mentor.
