I arrived in Velddrif in 2021.
I was confronted with two questions/statements (in Afrikaans)
1. Het jy oor die brug gekom?
I answered yes and asked whether there was a shorter route.
2. O, so, jy is ’n inkommer?
In my ignorance I simply ignored it as simply “sayings” of the people.
Then, one day in a shop, somebody told me she prays all the Transvalers would go back where they come from. I asked why?
Though I grew up in Cape Town, my grandparents, and therefore great great grandparents, were born in St Helena Bay, which I want to believe makes the West Coast my roots. I want to understand what it is that people either imply, or is there a “message” they want one to know?
Further, without judging anybody, I wish to enlighten people on the stipulations as pertained within our constitution Bill of rights; Rule 21(3).
