Returning for the third time, the West Coast Street Mile Series in Langebaan is back, starting with the first leg on Friday 6 September at the Seabreeze Hall. This year, the Street Mile series is being presented by the Langebaan Sports Development Foundation in association with the Langebaan Athletics Club. According to Christopher Rodgers, race director, this event is a great opportunity for locals from the West Coast to take part in their own area.
It is also a great way to promote athletics within communities and the development of the youth. Rodgers said the previous Street Mile events were well supported by top-class athletes such as William Kaptein and Deon Lee Hendriks.
“A new edition to the race is the under -seven and over 80 year old categories.
The second leg of the series will take place on Saturday, 13 September, and the final leg on Saturday, 27 September.
Prize money for the senior athletes amounts to R10000 for both male and female winners and prizes for schools with the most entries, amounts to R4000.
Race entries:
• Juniors 7-18 years old – R50.
• Seniors and masters – R70.
• 70+ / 80+ – free entry. All entries payable on the day of the event.
