Police officers attached to the Crime Prevention Unit in Atlantis arrested a Sherwood Park 40-year-old man and 50-year-old woman for possession of tik and Mandrax to the street value of R500, following stop-and-search operations on Wednesday 21 April at 08:00.
Police also search their home in Grosvenor Avenue, as well as performing house searches elsewhere, police spokesperson Capt Lisa Munro said.
In Orange Street, Saxonsea a 42-year-old man was arrested for dealing in dagga to the street value of R2 000.
In separate patrols the following day, 22 April, at 08:00, Crime Prevention Unit members spotted a Red Toyota Tazz on the road, which started accelerating before police gave chase. On stopping the vehicle they searched the two occupants.
On one of them, a 49-year-old male, seated at the back, the officers found three bags containing 100 Mandrax tablets concealed in his trousers.
The suspect was arrested for possession of Mandrax and was expected to appear in the Atlantis Magistrates’ Court after being charged, Munro said.
She also spoke of other recent crimes within the Atlantis police precinct, such as a 24-year-old man from Enchantress Street, Saxonsea who was shot and killed in Grosvenor Avenue on Tuesday 13 April.
A 33-year old man from Tahoe Way, Ext 12 was stabbed in the chest and died in hospital on Thursday 14 April, and a 20-year-old suspect was arrested for the killing.
A man (36) from Lobelia Street, Protea Park was shot and killed in Heathfield Court on Sunday 18 April, and no suspects had been arrested yet.
Two 16-year-old suspects from Witsand were arrested following the rape of a woman earlier in April, Munro said.
A male suspect was also arrested for allegedly raping a woman a few times in Mamre on Saturday 17 April.
