A flooring upgrade project began on Monday 11 September in the Wesfleur Hospital Maternity Ward.

The following changes will take place to allow the smooth flow of services to continue and to ensure a safe, private space is provided for expectant mothers, said the Department of Health in a statement.

Maternity and antenatal patients. The Maternity Ward will be moved temporarily to the Emergency Centre (EC) Overnight ward and Procedure room.. Elective Caesarean Section patients will be diverted to New Somerset Hospital . The Antenatal Ward will be moved to the Overnight Ward. Overnight Ward patients will be admitted to the Neb Suite and General Ward. . The Postnatal Clinic will operate from 07:00 to 13:00 in the Pop Room.

Family planning. The Family Planning Clinic has move to the back of the EC from Monday. Family Planning patients are requested to hand in their appointment cards at the current admin point, but to go to the back of EC, where seating will be available while waiting to be seen. . The Outreach Gynae Clinic will move to the current Family Planning Clinic.

. Visiting hours

Visitors will be limited to two patients at any given time during visiting hours, with no restriction to the total of visitors. Visitors wishing to access the Maternity Ward and the Overnight Ward patients in the Neb suite must please do so via the side entrance at the EC Majors. The hospital appeals to the public to cooperate with our security team as they maintain entry to the wards by using a visitors register.

The staff of Wesfleur Hospital are very enthusiastic that a safe upgraded space will be created within the hospital for pregnant clients and their unborn babies, and they are willing to do everything in their power to make this happen. They apologise for any inconvenience at this time and ask for the patience and understanding of patients and the community as they make sure a safe, quality service is provided.
