PAARL – Emergency services are responding to a fire that broke out at Paarl Hospital earlier today (Tuesday 27 January).
Several hospital wards have reportedly been evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The cause of the fire, as well as the extent of the situation inside the hospital, has not yet been confirmed.
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness confirmed the incident in a statement, stating that only a small section of the hospital was affected by the fire.
“The fire was quickly contained and we would like to thank hospital staff, the Drakenstein Municipality’s Fire Services, South African Police Service, and local law enforcement for their swift and professional response,” the statement read.
According to the department the affected area and its immediate vicinity was evacuated as a precaution. Patients impacted by the evacuation were safely moved. No injuries have been reported.
An assessment is currently underway to determine the extent of the damage.
