FRANKFORT – Two men were arrested in separate drug raids in Frankfort after police acted on information from community members about alleged drug dealing.

Members of the Welkom Anti-Gang unit, currently deployed in Deneysville, carried out the operation in the Phahameng area on Tuesday 28 July. Police said officers searched an informal dwelling where they allegedly found nyaope hidden between corrugated iron sheets, as well as cash believed to be linked to drug sales. A 35-year-old man was arrested.

Following further information, officers searched a second property in the same area. They recovered crystal meth, Mandrax tablets and an undisclosed amount of cash suspected to be the proceeds of drug dealing.

A 40-year-old man was arrested. Both men have been charged with dealing in illicit drugs and are expected to appear in the Frankfort Magistrates’ Court.

Police spokesperson Sgt Mahlomola Kareli said the arrests followed information supplied by community members, underscoring the role residents play in helping police combat crime.
