The organisation Future Giants of Maokeng, based in Kroonstad, hosted a dog walk event at the end of February to take a stand against gender-based violence. At the same time, the youth of Maokeng were educated on how to take care of pets. Dog owners walked their dogs from the Phomolong Shopping Complex to Seeisoville Hall in Maokeng. The first three to finish received a cash prize. The local traffic department not only enlisted some of its officers to assist in keeping the walkers and their pets safe, but also sponsored dog food hampers. “We hope that we made a difference in our society,” says Thato Sephoye, organiser. “We will keep on hosting these events to ensure we get the message across.” From the left are Pontsho Mahlatsi and his dog, Bella (third place), Lefa Makupu, Darelle van der Westhuizen, Katleho Sello (all three of the traffic department) and Pase Kamohanoe with her dog, Lady (first place).
