Three suspects were arrested for cable theft near Petrus Steyn. In a decisive operation on Tuesday, 23 September, the Petrus Steyn police arrested three suspects, including a foreign national, following a community tip-off regarding cable theft.

The swift response from law enforcement resulted in the recovery of approximately 200 kg of stolen cabling and the confiscation of tools used in the crime.

At around 11:00, police set up a surveillance operation based on the information received, leading to the immediate arrest of two suspects. A third suspect was tracked down and apprehended in Mamafubedu. The cables, worth an estimated R200 000 were discovered concealed beneath cut wood branches.

“We urge the farming community to stay alert for unusual activity, particularly suspicious vehicles that may be loitering on their properties,” says police spokesperson WO Mmako Mophiring.

“Community cooperation is vital in our fight against infrastructure crimes.”

The suspects, aged 36, 39, and 56, face serious charges related to damage to essential infrastructure and are scheduled to appear before the Petrus Steyn Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 1 October.

As this case unfolds, the police continue to encourage the public to report any suspicious activity, reinforcing the importance of collective action in safeguarding local resources and infrastructure.
