In the early hours of Monday, 15 September, a horrific ATM bombing and robbery at the Kroonvaal Engen One-Stop on the N1 has left local authorities seeking urgent assistance from the community.
At approximately 02:00, a white Mahindra vehicle approached the premises, where a suspect fired gunshots into the air, compelling staff members to lie on the ground. Moments later, an explosion erupted from inside the store, leading to the suspects fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Upon arrival, authorities determined that both the ATM and safes within the store had been bombed, highlighting the violent approach taken by the assailants.
“This was a calculated and dangerous act that endangered the lives of our community members,” says Captain Sandile Dhladhla from the Provincial Organised Crime unit.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has information to come forward.”
Though no arrests have yet been made, police have opened cases for business robbery and ATM bombing and are actively pursuing leads. The community’s vigilance is crucial in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The police are encouraging anyone with information to contact Capt. Dhladhla on 073 226 6788 or to report anonymously via the Police Crime Stop at 086 00 10111. Tips can also be submitted through the MySAPSApp.
