Energy and chemicals company Sasol has donated a technologically advanced fire truck to the Fezile Dabi District Municipality to support emergency services in the Moqhaka Local Municipality.

The fully equipped, state-of-the-art vehicle was officially handed over on Friday 13 March in Kroonstad, where it will be used by the Moqhaka Fire Brigade to improve response to fires and other emergencies.

Moqhaka municipality Executive Mayor Motloheloa Mokatsane welcomed the donation, describing it as timely and crucial for the region’s emergency services.

“We are grateful for this generous donation from Sasol. It has come at a critical time for our municipality.”

According to statistics, Moqhaka Fire Brigade responds to as many as 40 incidents a month during winter, many of which involve rapidly spreading veld fires. The municipality covers a vast area, including sections along the busy N1 route, and until recently had only one fire truck serving the entire region.

“The addition of this new vehicle will significantly improve the brigade’s ability to respond effectively to emergencies and protect our communities,” he said.

Ntokozo Gcabashe said the donation forms part of Sasol’s broader commitment to strengthening community safety and resilience in the areas where the company operates.

“We are proud to contribute towards the safety and well-being of the communities we serve,” says Gcabashe.

The fire truck is fitted with advanced, purpose-built equipment, including a heavy-duty bull bar, a front-mounted electronic winch, a slide-ladder gantry and a hyper sight thermal imaging camera to assist firefighters during emergency operations.

Firefighters from the Moqhaka municipality will also receive specialised training to operate the truck’s advanced systems.

Executive Mayor of the Fezile Dabi District Municipality, Dennis Khasudi, said the district’s fire brigade carries a significant responsibility in protecting residents and their property.

“It is a privilege for the district to receive this support from Sasol, which will help ensure the well-being and safety of our communities,” says Khasudi.

Gcabashe added that the initiative demonstrates the value of partnerships between the private and public sectors.

“This is the type of collaboration that delivers measurable impact in communities,” she said. “Sasol will continue to support municipalities across the Fezile Dabi District, including Metsimaholo and Ngwathe Local Municipality.”
