A man has been sentenced to 27 years’ imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend in Bohlokong near Bethlehem. The High Court handed down the sentence on Wednesday 15 April, after finding 37-year-old Letsika Petrus Mashinini guilty of killing Mangaka Veronica Mokoena (33).
The court heard that on the evening of 23 March 2023, at around 20:08 police and emergency services were called to Phase 7 in Bohlokong following reports of a murder.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Mokoena’s body inside a shack. She had sustained multiple stab wounds to her back. A bloodstained knife was recovered at the scene, and Mashinini was subsequently arrested and charged with murder.
The successful conviction was secured through the work of WO Michael Hescock in collaboration with the National Prosecuting Authority. Mashinini has now been sentenced to 27 years behind bars.
