In a community engagement, the Dihlabeng Local Municipality and Saki Mokoena, Free State MEC for the departments of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) and Human Settlements, met with housing beneficiaries in Bohlokong, Bethlehem, to discuss the transformative new Bakenpark Extension 6 and 7 project.
On 16 November, the meeting brought together local residents, government officials, and community leaders to share critical updates about the housing development.
Mokoena addressed community concerns, recognising the high demand for housing. He provided practical guidance, encouraging residents who might have registration issues to re-register during the upcoming housing truck visit on Tuesday 25 November and Wednesday.
Cllr Tseki James Tseki, executive mayor of the Dihlabeng Municipality, outlined the government’s commitment to providing diverse housing opportunities, with 14 wards set to benefit from this initiative.

The project stands out for its offering of multiple housing options that cater to different community needs. From RDP houses to first home finance and subsidy assistance (FLISP), social housing, and bonded units, the development ensures that residents across various income brackets can find suitable accommodation.
With a substantial investment of R372 million, the Bakenpark Extension 6 and 7 project is more than just a housing development − it is a community transformation. Since its inception in 2022, the project has been steadily progressing, with over 1 400 housing opportunities on the horizon, complemented by essential social amenities and critical infrastructure.
The meeting earlier in November went beyond communicating information, also tackling important administrative matters, including warnings about the unauthorised rental of government-subsidised housing and assurances about fair site allocation.
Tseki’s promise that no resident would be unfairly treated provided additional reassurance to the community.
