WELKOM – The seventeen-year-old Wame Seswana, a learner at the Orion School of Skills in Welkom, has brought pride to the Free State after securing second place in the National Nkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History Competition.
The national competition, held in Pretoria from 20 to 23 August, brought together young historians representing all nine provinces.
Seswana represented the Free State after emerging victorious in both the district and provincial rounds of the competition.
Competing in the Young Historians – LSEN Schools category, Seswana delivered an impressive performance to secure second place at national level.
His coach and mentor, Ina Burger, a departmental head at Orion, praised Seswana for his dedication and hard work in preparing for the prestigious competition.
“Wame really performed excellently. He worked extremely hard in preparation for the competition,” said Burger.
She added that both she and the entire Orion School of Skills community were immensely proud of Seswana’s achievement.
For his second-place finish, Seswana received a Silver Certificate, a trophy, and a tablet.
