WINBURG – A 59-year-old man has been arrested for alleged stock theft in Winburg after police recovered ten Bonsmara calves valued at R150 000 from a trailer attached to the vehicle he was driving.
Police were summoned to a farm in Winburg on Saturday 24 October, following a report of suspected stock theft. Officers stopped a white Isuzu bakkie towing a trailer before conducting an investigation.
The complainant had gone to the kraal that morning to carry out a routine inspection. He noticed vehicle tyre marks on the ground and observed that some of the calves were suspiciously close to the gate. He also allegedly saw a white Isuzu bakkie leaving the farm, prompting him to alert private security and the police.
Ten calves were found in the trailer. The complainant positively identified the animals as his.
Police seized the bakkie and trailer that are believed to have been used in the commission of the alleged crime.
The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Winburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
