Nielsen started his teaching career 1986 as a Business Studies, Economics and Accounting educator. He came to Strelitzia during 1991 as Head of Department, became Deputy Principal in 2012 and was appointed as Principal in 2016.

When asked what one of his happiest experiences was as principal, he said: “Having a 100% matric pass rate the first year of being headmaster in 2016.”

Nielsen is a passionate, caring businessman and has a heart for children and always has Strelitzia’s best interests on his mind. He loves sports, especially soccer.

This he also highlighted when asked about an epic moment during his teaching and coaching career, answering: “Winning the bronze medal at the Nedbank Soccer U/19 Challenge which was held at Grey Bloemfontein.”

Nielsen spearheaded the school through a very ghastly period and extraordinary COVID-19 circumstances when the world had to find her feet in the process too.

“A special word of thank you to the secretaries for their dedication, support and service especially to Colleen Rudman for her loyal service and assistance through trying times.”

Romey Aylward will be standing in as Acting Principal, to steer the Strelitzia ship forward.

Nielsen wishes the SGB, SMT, staff, learners, fellow colleagues in the Department of Education and everyone affiliated to the school, “All of the Best”.
