She started her career at the very same school which in 1986 was known as Commercial High School.

“When you reach a point where your learners start asking you whether you remember their parents, as you taught them way back, then you know it is time to go,” said Aylward

She is well known amongst the teaching community as she has played a vital role not just in education but also for many learners who have had the opportunity and privilege to work with her. She has always been a team player and has taken on many roles throughout the years from teacher, HOD, deputy principal as well as acting principal. She has also been a provincial marker and the moderator for Economics for many years.

“At Strelitzia I have learned so much from all my colleagues over the years and have grown into the person I am today.”

Aylward has played a pivotal role in the day-to-day management of the school and has always had the school’s and learners’ best interest at heart. For many years she played an active role in the school choir alongside Rene Zietsmann in which they started the well-known and highly accoladed Marimbas.

“All that remains for me is to say thank you. A big thank you to every learner, colleague, principal, friend, family member, my mom and God who have walked this road with me. You were my strength and my support; God bless you one and all.

“Strelitzia, continue to reach for the stars!”

Aylward is saluted for her dedication, passion, and resilience.
