A taxi driver miraculously survived after being shot twice in the back while transporting passengers to Somerset West.The incident occurred at 08:45 on the R102, before Baden Powell Drive in Eerste River.
Attempted murder
According to Captain FC van Wyk, police spokesperson, the Kleinvlei police registered two counts of attempted murder following a shooting incident on Tuesday, 30 June, when two men were shot and injured. “The injured 54-year-old driver sustained two gunshot wounds to the back and one gunshot wound to his left arm. According to reports, the injured victim was driving with passengers on his way to Somerset West on the R102. It was just before the Baden Powell Bridge when another taxi hooted at him, and he stopped because he was under the impression that they were going to offload passengers onto him. People were seen running towards his taxi and randomly started shooting at him,” says Van Wyk.
Unknown passenger
Van Wyk says the injured passenger, whose identity is unknown at this stage, got out of the taxi and ran away. “The driver drove off and continued along the route on the R102, stopping at the Shell garage on the R102 at Firgrove, from where he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
