A stolen Hyundai Grand i10 was recovered in Bellville on Monday morning after VRCID Public Safety officers caught a suspect allegedly stripping the vehicle during a routine patrol.

The incident occurred on Tienie Meyer Road, where VRCID Public Safety Officers Willie Davids and Edwin Adonis spotted a man dismantling the grey Hyundai.

According to VRCID chief operating officer Derek Bock, as the officers approached, the suspect fled the scene on foot before he could be apprehended.

Davids and Adonis immediately secured the vehicle and alerted Bellville SAPS. At the same time, the owner was at Bellville police station reporting the vehicle as stolen. He was able to positively identify the recovered Hyundai as his own.

The vehicle was handed over to Bellville SAPS for further investigation and arrangements were made for it to be towed to the Stikland SAPS vehicle pound for safekeeping.

Although the suspect escaped, the quick response by Davids and Adonis prevented the vehicle from being stripped further.

With the assistance of Bellville SAPS the owner was reunited with his vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
