Fire engines from Brackenfell, Kraaifontein and Durbanville fire stations were dispatched, supported by a rescue vehicle from Milnerton and a water tanker from Epping. An incident management team was also sent to the scene to coordinate the response.
“Upon arrival, they found residents frantically attempting to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose,” said Mark Bosch, spokesperson for the fire service. “Firefighting crews assisted, and within 30 minutes of arrival, they had the fire contained and declared the area safe at 18:27.”

It was a nerve-wracking half an hour for residents as firefighters battled the blaze, with the smell of smoke hanging heavy in the air.
According to Bosch, the kitchen and lounge were severely damaged by fire, as was a car parked on the scene. The garage and carport were also badly scorched.
No injuries were reported, a relief for the close-knit Protea Heights community that had gathered on the pavements, many anxious for word of their neighbours.
The City states that the cause of the fire that started in the garage is unknown at this stage.
