Two Brackenfell motorists had a pistol thrust in their faces at a busy intersection on Monday afternoon by a gun-slinging stranger who jumped out of his car at a traffic light.
The motorist, whose identity is being protected, was standing at the traffic light at the intersection of Buitekant Street and Protea Road at around 14:00 when an armed man pulled up next to him in a white Opel Corsa.
“He got out of his car, walked up to my window, pointed the gun right at me and told me to not move,” the man told TygerBurger.
“But he then walked to the car, that had stopped behind me, a Toyota Corolla, and appeared to be quarrelling with the driver. He seemed like a crazy person. I was in such shock I at first did not react. I was caught unawares and sped away as the light turned green.”

He described the man in the Corsa as in his fifties, slender with greying hair. He could not provide a clear description of the man in the Toyota behind him. The motorist did not report the matter to the South African Police Service at the time. He said: “I just wanted to get away to get on with the day.”
Mother speaks out
The motorist in the car behind him was a matriculant. His mother spoke out about the incident, saying she is not about to let it rest.
She told TygerBurger her son had a licence and was dropping a friend at home before the incident. The man apparently followed him down Buitekant Street.
“My son stood at the intersection of Buitekant Street and Protea Road when the man jumped out of his car with his gun, came to my son and pushed the gun into his face where he was sitting behind the wheel, yelling at him because he is a bad driver,” she says, adding that the incident had left the boy traumatised.

“Has Brackenfell now become the Wild West, where you can run around threatening people with guns? It’s outrageous,” she told TygerBurger, appealing for anyone with more information or camera footage of the incident to come forward. A case was opened at Brackenfell police station who is currently investigating the matter.
