The Monte Vista and Plattekloof Glen Neighbourhood Watch held its annual general meeting (AGM) on Tuesday 28 July at the Monte Vista Dutch Reformed church.

Vice-chair Deon Oosthuizen said he was pleased with the turnout, but wanted to see more people involved in the community by attending such meetings and, of course, joining groups such as the neighbourhood watch. “Those who live in Monte Vista and Plattekloof Glen can be our eyes and ears, keeping the Watch informed and reporting any suspicious-looking activity in the area.”

Guest speakers included MonteVista-based attorney Mariam Cassim, who spoke on the importance of having up-to-date wills and title-deed restrictions, Tyrel Painczyk, chair of the Monte Vista and Plattekloof Glen Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association, who spoke on the the group and its history and how to log C3 notifications, an important measure, and Col Shawn van Wyk, Goodwood Police Station commander, who said how pleased he was with the Watch, which was playing a vital role in preventing crime in its focus area.

The Watch expressed pride in the crucial relationships it has formed and continues to build on, with the police, community-policing forum and other community-based structures.
