Metro Police Neighbourhood Safety Officers (NSOs) deployed to Ward 1, which include Plattekloof, Panorama, Welgelegen, Sonnendal, Kleinbosch and Monte Vista, are set to increase their visibility and patrols in these areas.

Last week Cheryl Visser, ward councillor, announced that following ongoing engagement and recommendations from ward councillors regarding the deployment of NSOs, approval has been granted for revised working hours to increase visibility and coverage across the community.

The weekday shifts for the NSOs are between 06:00 and 14:30 one week, and then from 09:30 to 18:00 the other week. They will also work alternate Saturdays. Approved overtime has been allocated to support this deployment, said Visser.

“This is an important step forward and reflects a commitment to strengthening safety initiatives in our ward. Increased visibility and proactive patrols will benefit our communities and help address concerns raised by residents.

“However, effective law enforcement and neighbourhood safety also depend on community participation. Residents are encouraged to continue reporting incidents, illegal activities, bylaw transgressions, and other concerns so that the relevant departments can respond appropriately,” said Visser.

Visser said every report helps the City of Cape Town identify challenges and direct resources where they are needed most.
