A coordinated law enforcement operation in Summer Greens last week saw Ward 4 councillor Anthony Benadie joining metro police officers on patrol at The Hut.
The operation focused on addressing crime and by-law infringements in the area. Officers issued fines for public drinking and confiscated alcohol, while also conducting vehicle and driver’s licence inspections.
Several stop-and-searches were carried out on individuals considered suspicious, alongside vehicle searches as part of ongoing crime prevention efforts.
During the operation, an unregistered e-hailing driver was fined R2 500 and had his vehicle impounded for operating without a valid permit. The driver will also face a R5 000 fee to release the vehicle.

Improve safety in ward
Benadie said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to improve safety and visibility in the ward.
“It was a very successful day working alongside our metro police officers in Summer Greens. These operations are important to ensure law and order, and to show a visible presence in our communities,” he said.
He added that enforcement would continue in problem areas to deter illegal activity and improve residents’ sense of safety.
The councillor also inspected infrastructure concerns, including potholes, which have been escalated for repair.
On a positive note, Benadie welcomed the long-awaited upgrade at Emerald Park, where the basketball court, boards and hoops have been replaced.
“I am so happy that the Emerald Park basketball court, boards and hoops have been replaced. It took a while, but it’s been delivered — happy playing, folks,” he said.
