A man was abducted in Kosmos Street, Bellville South, on Tuesday evening, 23 June, after the owners of a local pet shop and internet café were allegedly followed to a residence in the area.
According to the Bellville South Community Police Forum (CPF), the owners were allegedly followed to the Kosmos Street address at approximately 20:00, where they were confronted. A scuffle reportedly ensued, resulting in the abduction of one male.
Investigation under way
Constable Ndakhe Gwala, media liaison officer for the Western Cape, confirmed that a kidnapping case was opened on Tuesday 23 June. “The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation,” said Gwala.
The CPF said the police are working diligently to follow up on leads and information to assist with identifying and arresting the perpetrators.
On Monday 29 June, the police confirmed that the matter remains under investigation. “Kindly be advised that the matter you are referring to is still under investigation. There are no new developments to report at this stage to the media,” police said.
