Kuils River police arrest robbery suspect, recover unlicensed firearm


Police arrested a 24-year-old man after a business robbery in Kalkfontein on Wednesday 5 August.

According to a statement from provincial police, officers of the Kuils River Crime Prevention Unit were on patrol in the area when they received reports of a robbery in progress in Brenda Street. When they arrived at the scene, they saw a white Toyota Quantum and a white Kia Picanto speeding away.

Suspect nabbed on foot

One of the suspects had been left behind and tried to run, but was caught and arrested. During a search, police found a 9mm pistol with no serial number and three rounds of ammunition.

The man faces charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

Court appearance pending

Once formally charged, the suspect will make his first appearance in the Kuils River Magistrates’ Court.

Police are still searching for the remaining suspects who fled in the two vehicles.
