Man (21) in court following fatal Milnerton hit-and-run

A 21-year-old man appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 6 August) on a charge of culpable homicide following a hit-and-run incident in Milnerton, which claimed the life of a woman, this week.

Milnerton police spokesperson Capt Nopaya Madyibi said the suspect, a foreign national, faced such a charge following his arrest on Tuesday 4 August. The fatality occurred earlier in the day on the corners of Koeberg and Blaauwberg Road.

“It is alleged the 30-year-old deceased female was crossing the road at the Astron Refinery in Milnerton when a black BMW came down the MyCiti bus lane at a high speed and knocked her down. He failed to stop.

Chase

“A witness gave chase and caught the suspect.” Madyibi said, and he was arrested by Milnerton police officers.

The woman was declared dead at the scene.

The Western Cape police’s office has confirmed that a case of culpable homicide had been opened following the hit-and-run, and said the investigation was underway.
