Huge drug bust in Stikland by Operation Prosper after arrest in Delft

The distribution of drugs on the Cape Flats suffered a major setback when officers attached to Operation Prosper arrested a 45-year-old man for dealing drugs in Delft yesterday (20 April).

Mandrax

According to police spokesperson Capt Frederick van Wyk, officers were conducting stop-and-search operations in Buczane Street, N2 Gateway, Delft, when they stopped a silver Honda Civic. “Officers searched the vehicle and its occupant and found 10 mandrax tablets and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime,” said Van Wyk.

Further investigation led officers to a storage facility in Stikland, Bellville. “At the facility, officers discovered 46 packets containing 1 000 mandrax tablets each, bringing the total to 46 000 tablets with an estimated street value of R2,76 million,” he said.

Arrested

The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court once charged.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Thembisile Patekile applauded the officers for their efforts, which led to the seizure of the drug consignment.
