A mother from Bishop Lavis is appealing for the public’s help in getting her talented soccer-playing son to Dallas, Texas, in America to play in the Dallas Cup tournament in 2027.
Sidney Schoeman (16), a learner at John Ramsay High School, has been invited to participate in the tournament that started in 1980. It is held annually over Easter weekend and more than 900 young players take part in it.
Proud but stressed
Chevonne Hendricks, Sidney’s mother, says she’s so proud of him, but at the same time she is stressed out because he needs R67 000 before March 2027.”I am reaching out to you with a heart full of hope as a proud mother asking for a little help to make my son’s dream come true. Sidney is only 16 years old, and he has a dream that means the world to him,” says Hendricks.

According to Hendricks, as a mother, there is nothing more beautiful than watching your child dream big and work hard towards a brighter future.
Opportunity
“I want nothing more than to see my son get this opportunity to showcase his talent, represent where he comes from, and prove that dreams can come true no matter where you start in life. Unfortunately, dreams like these come with financial challenges.
“I know times are difficult for many people, and I understand that not everyone can afford to donate. But even the smallest contribution can make a difference. Whether you can give R20, R50, R100, or more, every rand will bring Sidney one step closer to Dallas,” says Hendricks.
