The communities serviced by the Bishop Lavis Police Station are in shock at the death of a respected police officer based there.
Sergeant Tembani Mditshwa died on Sunday when a vehicle in which he was travelling caught fire on the R300 highway. The police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
Heavy heart
Angus McKenzie, ward councillor for Bonteheuwel, says it is with a heavy heart that he extends his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Mditshwa. “He was a dedicated and respected member of the police, who tragically passed away over the weekend following a devastating vehicle fire. Mditshwa was more than just a police officer. He was a servant of the people, a protector of our communities, and a man who wore his badge with honour, integrity, and pride. Throughout his years of service at the Bishop Lavis Police Station, he distinguished himself through his professionalism, unwavering commitment to duty, and genuine care for those he served,” says McKenzie.
Legacy
According to McKenzie, Mditshwa’s passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of working alongside him and by the countless residents whose lives he touched through his service. “He was respected by his colleagues, appreciated by the community, and admired for his tireless dedication to keeping others safe. As we mourn this tragic loss, we also celebrate a life of service, sacrifice, and commitment. May his legacy continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps. To his family, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time. May you find strength, comfort, and peace in the memories of a man who served with distinction and left an indelible mark on the community he loved. Rest in peace, Mditshwa,” says McKenzie.
