In celebration World Book Day, Goodwood Park Primary held a book drive and donated books to other schools.
Elizna van der Vyver, a teacher at Goodwood Primary School, said their learners dressed up as book characters for Book Day and each learner that dressed up, brought a book that they wanted to donate. In doing this, the school received over 800 books.
According to van Der Vyder, Goodwood Park Primary tries to do a charity project every six months if possible. This time they decided to collaborate it with book day.
“We celebrated book day on the 24th of April,” Van der Vyver said.
The school donated the 800 books to Nooitgedacht Primary School in Bishop Lavis.
“We decided to donate it to Nooitgedacht Primary as we know that books are expensive, and we wanted to donate it to a school that would appreciate this donation,” Van der Vyver said.
In addition, van der Vyver said Goodwood Park Primary also donated more than 700 Oxford reading books to Nooitgedacht Primary School.
The books were handed over on Wednesday 21 June.
“We have donated food and toiletries to an old-age home close to us, food, and clothes to a safe house for children, and baby items and clothes to Ubuntu House. I believe this tradition will continue in the future,” she said.
“The parents’ and public’s generosity means everything to us, especially to the principal, staff and learners of Nooitgedacht Primary,” Van der Vyver added.
