Cape Town’s Metro Police recovered 23 kg of dagga at a long-distance bus terminal in Bellville on Wednesday.

Officers received a tip at approximately 17:30 and made their way to the bus station armed with a description of the suspect. On arrival, they tracked down the individual who was in possession of a large green bag, said Ruth Solomons, Metro Police spokesperson.

The bag contained 23 vacuum-sealed parcels of what the man confirmed to be dagga. He could not provide any lawful reason or documentation for the drugs in his possession and was arrested and detained at the Bellville Police Station, said Solomons.

Metro Police officers sought permission from terminal management to use one of their bag scales, where they confirmed the bag weight of 23 kg, said Solomons. The estimated street value of the dagga is R184 000.
