In a remarkable season of growth and dominance, Bothasig Amateur Football Club (AFC) has capped off a historic campaign with major silverware and promotion across both their senior football setups. The club captured the First Division league title and earned automatic promotion back to the prestigious Cape Town Tygerberg Local Football Association (CTTLFA) Premier Division, following a period in relegation.

After enduring the disappointment of relegation the previous season, the club entered the 2026 campaign with a clear mission, to get back where they belong. Under steady leadership, the squad orchestrated an outstanding league run characterised by crucial victories and high-scoring performances, the club said.

Throughout the season, Bothasig’s relentless attack and resilient defence proved too hot for division rivals to handle. Key results that anchored their championship campaign included a commanding 4–0 home triumph over Kuils River, and crucial back-to-back league wins against Sunningdale City (3–2) and Ruyterwacht (2–0). The First Team put the exclamation mark on their stellar campaign with a thrilling 6–3 victory over JMI Cape Town Football Club and Academy in their final home fixture, sealing top spot on the league standings in emphatic style, the club said.

“First, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the club’s leadership and management for giving me this incredible opportunity. Taking on this role has been a privilege, and together with the players, our single-minded focus was to put this club right back where it belongs. I couldn’t be prouder of the squad. The players put in relentless hard work, day in and day out, and their dedication on and off the pitch made all the difference.

“Finally, a massive thank you to our entire technical team and support staff. Their tireless effort behind the scenes, expertise, and commitment were essential to everything we accomplished this season,” said David Kannemeyer, First Team Head Coach.

This triumph is a testament to the dedication of the players, coaching staff, and everyone involved behind the scenes. With promotion locked in, First Team now shifts focus toward preparing for the tougher challenges that await in the Premier Division next season, the club said.

Triumphant return for Bothasig Ladies, Queen Bees

Adding to the club’s silverware, the return of the Bothasig AFC Ladies team has yielded incredible success. Following rapid development and stellar pitch performances throughout the 2026 season – highlighted by clean-sheet wins over Norway Parks (5–0), Saxon Rovers (4–1), and Hout Bay (1–0) – the ladies have officially earned promotion to the Women’s Premier Division for the 2027 season.

This promotion means so much more than simply moving up a division, the club said. “The goal was not only to compete, but to build something that our ladies could be proud of. We wanted to create an environment where women could develop as footballers, challenge themselves, support one another and genuinely enjoy being part of the game,” said Nicole Rinquest, Head of Ladies.

“The year 2026 has been a very successful year for Bothasig AFC, and one that has made me extremely proud of our club. After being relegated last season, our men’s team showed tremendous character and determination by securing top spot and earning promotion back to the Premier Division – just as our coach promised. Their response to last season’s disappointment has been outstanding. Our ladies’ team also deserves huge recognition for securing promotion in their first year back after a short break. To see both our men and women achieve promotion in the same season is a fantastic accomplishment and a proud moment for the entire club. These successes are a reflection of the hard work and commitment of our players, coaches, committee, volunteers, parents and supporters. Everyone has played a part in making this a memorable year.

“The club can now build on this success, giving the next generation of players the opportunity to develop, compete and enjoy the game we all love. Our goal is to continue growing Bothasig AFC both on and off the field and to remain a club that our community can be proud of. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to a remarkable 2026 season,” said Bradley George, Club Chairperson.

With both squads achieving their top targets, Bothasig AFC now turns its attention to pre-season preparations for what promises to be a landmark 2027 campaign in Cape Town’s premier competitions, the club said.
