Achurch service was held for the frontline workers in Goodwood on Sunday 26 March at De Vrijzee Church.

It was hosted by a community of churches in Goodwood.

Rev Johan Janse van Rensburg from the De Vrijzee congregation welcomed everyone.

Bishop Jerry Nico Louw from Solid Word Foundation and the Goodwood Spiritual Crime Prevention acknowledged all the frontline workers present and all those working in Goodwood while the public is not watching or sleeping.

Lieut Mpumelelo Dathini of the Salvation Army brought a word of encouragement.

“Just like Moses in the Bible, the burden of the calling on life can get too much and the only way to endure was to look unto God for help.

“Lieut Mpumelelo’s call to all of us was ‘look to Jesus, He is the only one that can help you when things get tough’,” Stemmet said.

After the Word there were prayers for the frontline workers through Pastor Jan Bezuidenhout from Nuwe Lewe Bediening Goodwood, Mathieu Cubimane from New Life Church, Claudette van Zilla from Mothers who Care and Ilze Stemmet.

In the end, Rev Wimke Jurgens from the Goodwood Park congregation blessed all who were present and closed the meeting.

Members from different backgrounds

“What a blessing to be at a meeting where community members from different backgrounds and churches come together to bless and encourage the frontline workers in our community,” Stemmet expressed.

According to Stemmet for more than a year, a community of different churches in Goodwood started to pray together.

They hosted carols by candlelight at the end of last year and decided to focus on frontline workers in the first quarter of 2023 as the community of churches prays for them every Wednesday.

“Anyone who has a heart for the community and loves Jesus is welcome to come and pray with us.

“Every Wednesday on the field behind the Jabulani Old age Home or if the weather is bad at Goodwood Park Church.”

According to Dathini, there is nothing more encouraging than to know that people are thinking of you.

“We continue to uphold them in prayer and value their positive contribution to society,” Dathini said.
