The Bishop Lavis community is welcoming the arrest of a man who was on the run after stabbing his girlfriend in the face on Sunday, 10 May.
CPF
Amanda Davids, chairperson of the Bishop Lavis Policing Forum (BLCPF), says she welcomes the arrest. She says she received a call on Sunday at about 21:00 reporting the incident that took place in Bream Way, Nooitgedacht.
“A community member called me and said the victim is unresponsive and that they are taking her to Elsies River day hospital, as they were afraid she would not make it if they waited for an ambulance. I received the photos and videos that showed the knife was stuck in her face. I immediately sent it to the Vispol Commander of the Bishop Lavis police. I was later told that she was transferred to Tygerberg Hospital by the community member who alerted me,” says Davids.
On the run
The victim’s boyfriend went on the run after the attack, but Davids says he was arrested and is in custody. “The CPF wants to congratulate the Bishop Lavis police for the swift arrest of the suspect. I hope this sends a loud and clear message to perpetrators of gender-based violence and domestic violence that it will not be tolerated in this community,” says Davids.
TygerBurger reached out to the police for comment regarding the arrest and will add it as soon as it is received.
