Two female learners of Fisantekraal High School in Fisantekraal, outside Durbanville, have made their school proud by achieving their Western Province colours in chess.

These exceptional young players, Tonia Motzarov and Lungelwa Mosotwana, have earned the honour following a season of remarkable performances.

Representing their school with maturity beyond their years, their coaches and officials have praised their strategic sharpness, composure under pressure and unwavering dedication to improvement. These qualities that have set them apart on the competitive circuit, said Romayo Page, their coach.

Tonia won her u-20 women category, which allowed her to walk away with the District Trophy this year.

For Lungelwa, it was the second consecutive year she had qualified to play for Western Province in its u-18 girls team.

Both girls have inspired and cheered each other on to become the best in their respective age groups since Lungelwa made the Western Province team for the first time last year, Page said.

Both players expressed gratitude to their families, coaches and teammates, acknowledging the support systems that helped them reach this milestone. With national tournaments on the horizon, they say they are more motivated than ever to continue raising their game.

Their accomplishment stands as an inspiration to young chess enthusiasts across the province, proving hard work and passion can open doors to extraordinary opportunities, Page concluded.
