The Greenville Early Childhood Development (ECD) Forum was officially launched this week in the community hall in Fisantekraal.

“The purpose of the forum is to support and empower early childhood development centres in our community,” its chairperson, Getruida Maartens, said, “especially with guidance on compliance, administration and how to improve the quality of care for children aged 0 to 5 years.”

The event, on Tuesday in the Fisantekraal Community Hall, was attended by various stakeholders, including community members, ECD practitioners and representatives of local organisations.

Community involvement

“We were also honoured by the presence of officers from Durbanville Police Station,” said Maartens.

“The police’s involvement, as part of community service, consists in support with safety at ECD centres in Fisantekraal, with a view to building positive relationships with the community and children in the neighbourhood. The Rotary Club of Durbanville, local councillors and organisations also contributed to make the day special.

“Our goal as a forum is to create a supportive network where ECD centres can learn from one another, enjoy training opportunities and ultimately provide better early-learning foundations for children in Greenville and surrounding areas.

“We look forward to growing the forum and continuing to make a positive impact on our community.”
