The City of Cape Town has commenced extensive night-time road resurfacing operations on two major Bellville thoroughfares, with works scheduled to continue until early March to improve road safety and quality.

Frans Conradie Drive, between Lincoln Street and Durban Road in Boston, and Old Paarl Road, between Bill Bezuidenhout Avenue and De La Haye Road in De La Haye, are currently undergoing comprehensive rehabilitation by the City’s Urban Mobility Directorate.

The works involve milling and removal of existing asphalt surfaces, replacement with hot-mix asphalt, removal and replacement of damaged kerbs, and reinstatement of road markings.

To reduce impact on daily commuter traffic, all construction activities are taking place during night hours from 19:00 to 05:30, Monday to Friday. All lanes are expected to reopen to traffic by 06:00 on weekdays.

The project is scheduled to continue until Monday 2 March 2026, weather permitting.

Rob Quintas, Mayco Member for Urban Mobility, emphasised the necessity of the works for maintaining Cape Town’s road network.

“To minimise disruption to daily routines we have scheduled this work to take place at night,” he said. “All lanes are expected to reopen to traffic by 06:00 on weekdays.

“I would like to thank residents and road users for their patience throughout the construction period. Some of the road infrastructure in parts of Bellville is ageing, and these repairs are essential to ensure we can keep Cape Town moving on safe, high-quality roads.”

The City has advised road users travelling through the affected areas to reduce speed, follow construction signage, remain vigilant and expect uneven road surfaces and longer travel times during night hours.

The rehabilitation forms part of ongoing efforts to address ageing road infrastructure across the municipal area and maintain high standards of road safety for residents and commuters.
