Residents of Goodwood have been reminded that road resurfacing will be taking place in the area.

The City of Cape Town’s urban mobility directorate says the roadworks, which form part of the municipality’s regular maintenance programme to keep roads safe and in good condition for road users, is scheduled for completion at the end of May.

They say the project will cover Vasco Boulevard between Voortrekker Road and Milton Road in Goodwood. To minimise daytime disruptions, construction will take place from Sundays to Fridays between 19:00 and 05:30, the City says, with provision for work on Sundays and public holidays where necessary.

Critical road resurfacing will also be conducted in Voortrekker Road, Bellville, at the same time. In Bellville, the work will take place on the eastbound carriageway of Voortrekker Road, specifically between Durban Road and Kort Street, and from Robert Sobukwe Road to Quarry Road.

Both upgrade projects are scheduled for completion on 27 May.

“Residents, businesses, and road users can look forward to smoother road surfaces and improved safety through the installation of new retro-reflective line markings. While some temporary disruptions are inevitable during construction, every effort will be made to limit inconvenience as we work to keep Cape Town moving,” says Rob Quintas, Mayco member for Urban Mobility.

The roadworks will include removing the old, worn-out road surface, laying a new layer of asphalt, fixing, or replacing broken or missing kerbs and repainting clear, reflective road markings for better visibility.

Quintas says five temporary job opportunities have been created for individuals registered on the City’s Jobseekers Database through these projects. “I encourage job seekers across Cape Town to ensure their details are updated to take advantage of future opportunities,” he says.
