A community on the outskirts of Cape Town is reeling after the body of a 10-year-old girl who went missing last night was found in a farm dam near her home at Tomatieplaas in Joostenbergvlakte this morning.
The family reportedly contacted the neighbourhood watch last night after the girl failed to return home. A search team combed nearby orchards and surrounding farms into the late hours, but found no sign of her.
“Members of the neighbhourhood watch did search orchards and surrounding farms late last night, but at that point there was no indication she might be harmed or dead,” a reliable source said.
This morning, a farmer circulated a picture of the girl via BOLO in a fresh bid to locate her. Shortly afterwards, at around 08:30, the body was spotted in the dam.
Police were immediately notified. A forensics unit is currently on the scene, but the cause of death remains unknown. The girl’s name has not been officially released.
TygerBurger has reached out to Kraaifontein police for comment and is awaiting a response.
