Western Cape police confirmed on Monday morning that they are investigating the murder of a 13-year-old boy from Uitsig who was shot dead over the weekend.

A 58-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the murder.

Const. Ndakhe Gwala, provincial police spokesperson, said detectives at the Ravensmead Police Station are investigating a murder case following the incident on Friday 11 September which occurred at a church premises in Belhar Railroad, Uitsig.

Circumstances

“According to reports, three boys were playing on the premises when a private security officer fired shots, fatally wounding one of them,” he said. Gwala said the victim sustained a gunshot wound to his back and succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

The suspect will be appearing in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court today (Monday 14 September).
