The SIU has obtained a court order freezing assets worth millions belonging to a company director who illegally received Covid-19 relief funds.

The telecommunications provider said scammers are contacting individuals claiming they have won a vehicle, then asking them to make a payment to “release” or claim the prize. Telkom confirmed the scam has no association with the company.

The company said it will never request payment, deposits, administration fees or voucher purchases for customers to claim prizes or rewards. Communications requesting payment to unlock prizes, sensitive information such as banking PINs or one-time passwords, or directing customers to suspicious links should be treated as fraudulent.

The Telkom Summer Campaign car giveaway officially closed on 31 January 2026 and all competition processes have been concluded. Five Toyota Starlet Cross vehicles were awarded to five verified winners, with no additional vehicles being given away under the campaign.

The verified winners are Lwando Quma from East London, Lebohang Lekalalala from Gauteng, Sandile Wiseman Phewa from KwaZulu-Natal, Nompumelelo Nkabinde from Gauteng and Ndabezinhle Mchunu from KwaZulu-Natal.

Telkom continues to reward customers through its Tap2Win loyalty rewards programme, which offers eligible customers chances to win rewards based on their engagement with Telkom products and services. All legitimate communications will only be sent via official channels and will never require customers to pay money to receive prizes.

Customers can verify prize notifications by checking official Telkom SMS short codes, email domains and in-app notifications via the My Telkom app, visiting the official website at https://www.telkom.co.za or self-service portal at gethelp.telkom.co.za directly rather than clicking links in unsolicited messages, or contacting Telkom customer care or visiting a Telkom store.

Customers who receive suspicious calls, SMS, WhatsApp messages or emails claiming they have won a car or other prizes should not make any payment or share bank details, PINs, passwords or one-time passwords, not click on suspicious links or download unknown attachments, end the call or stop responding immediately, and report the incident to Telkom customer care on 10210 from a Telkom line or via the online fraud reporting form at Telkom.co.za.

Suspected fraud can also be reported to the South African Police Service via the nearest police station or the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.

Customers can contact Telkom customer care on 10210 or visit www.telkom.co.za for more information or to verify any prize communication. Tap2Win information is available on Telkom’s Instagram, Facebook and Twitter/X accounts.
