GQEBERHA – SAPS Swartkops confirmed they have opened an inquest following the drowning of 16-year-old Aqhama Sapula on Saturday, 31 January, at Wells Estate.
According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, preliminary reports indicate that at around 18:30, SAPS Swartkops responded to a report of a boy drowning in the sea.
“A family member at the beach noticed the boy was in distress and calling for help. Community members tried to assist him, but the current was too strong,” she said.
