The Welkom Super Seals Swim Club made history on 20 September in Bloemfontein, by hosting their first very own gala.

“The community in Welkom, Virginia and Odendaalsrus joined hands to sponsor our event and the outcome was beyond words,” says Jules Laubscher.

A total of 11 clubs supported the day, and 204 swimmers entered, with 19 of them being Welkom swimmers.

The club has been without water or a swimming pool since 1 August, due to upgrades being done to the pool in Welkom.

“We walked into our own gala in Bloemfontein with our heads held high, and we did our best. Our swimmers did fantastic, and the event was a huge success.

“Between the 19 swimmers, we brought home 21 gold medals, 21 silver and 24 bronze.”

Elle-Anne Roper of the club was named junior victrix ludorum, Noa Mansill the senior victrix ludorum and SJ Nel the senior victor ludorum.

“We also ended in second place as a club, and can only be proud. Thank you to coach Corinne Mansill and all the super parents of the club standing behind her. A big congratulations to each and every swimmer who shared this day with us and for all your achievements.

“With God in our hearts, we shall conquer our obstacles, stroke for stroke and splash more memories for this season,” says Laubscher.
