In a collaborative effort between Swartland Tourism and West Coast College a dynamic roadshow unfolded from 13 to 17 November. The initiative aimed to ensure 75 working waiting staff in the Swartland region were well-prepared for the upcoming peak summer season.

Throughout a five-day period, an extensive one-day training program for waitstaff took place in the towns of Riebeek Kasteel, Yzerfontein, Darling, Malmesbury and Moorreesburg. The workshop covered diverse topics, including dress code, service techniques, table arrangement, etiquette, culinary and beverage terminology, and more.

The primary objective of this initiative was not only to bolster local businesses, but also to focus on skills development. “Our aim was to elevate the standards of professionalism and service levels in eateries across the Swartland region,” emphasised Lizelle Carstens, Tourism Manager of Swartland Tourism. “Waiters play a crucial role as tourism ambassadors, especially considering that many visitors may not visit tourism offices. We rely on them to serve as hosts for our region.”

The training also provided students with valuable networking opportunities and a platform to seek clarification on various aspects of their roles. This collaborative effort reflects a commitment to enhancing the overall hospitality experience for both locals and visitors during the festive season.

Swartland Tourism plans to launch additional one-day workshops in collaboration with various partners.
