Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Xolisile Mhobo.
“Two African males, aged 21 and 27, from Zwelethemba, Worcester were arrested on 14 October by dedicated members of this station in Worcester,” said a spokesperson for the Robertson police. “Another suspect is believed to be in Worcester, although still at large and his whereabouts unknown.”
The shooting took place on Sunday 2 October at 02:00. According to police reports three men had entered the Emhobo’s tavern, one of them armed with a gun.
Three people were shot; Mhobo’s daughter and another man were wounded in the incident.
According to Mhobo’s daughter, Xoliswa, the men had tried to take money from her. And while she was fighting off her assailant her father stepped in to help her and was shot. She sustained gunshot wounds to her arm and leg, and her father died of his wounds.
A spokesperson for Robertson police confirmed a suspect was taken into custody.
Mhobo said she was relieved an arrest had been made.
“It’s good that progress is being made in the case,” she told Gazette. “I want to have my peace back. I feel every time I leave the house I must look over my shoulder. Every time I go to a shop or mall I look around me nervously, and I just want to see justice served for my father.
Mhobo added it still felt as if she was experiencing a dream.
“It still feels as if he is going to come walking through that door at any time. I still haven’t accepted the fact that he is dead.
“Even at his funeral on Saturday it felt as if it was all just a dream, and he would be coming home soon. I thought I would have got closure at the funeral, but no, that has not been the case.”
The spokesperson said police would oppose bail. He asked that anyone with information particularly on the whereabouts of the third suspect please contact Lt Col Russell Koeries on 082 778 357.
