The Riebeek Valley Community Policing Forum and Victim Supporters (VEP) at the Riebeek West Community Service Centre (attached to the police) are jointly launching a 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign.

The event takes place at 10:00 at the Riebeek West Police Station on Saturday 25 November, marking the official start of a general campaign that runs annually from this date to 10 December.

They will collaborate with the following stakeholders: police, Swartland Law Enforcement, ward councillors, the West Coast Community Foundation, Goedgedacht Men’s Group, communities of Riebeek West and Riebeek-Kasteel, Swartland Municipality’s GBV ambassadors for both areas, Unity Community Advice and Development Office NPC.

The campaign will end in Riebeek-Kasteel on 9 December at 10:00, starting at the Riebeek-Kasteel Community Hall.

“We also make a plea to anyone who is able contribute to the two events,” said Faiza Davids, Public Relations Officer for the Riebeek Valley CPF. “It would be highly appreciated.”

This can be in the form of Bompies (ice lollies), small packets of chips and lollipops. Pre-loved clothing for the event on 9 December will also be welcome. Davids said the Unity Community Advice and Development Office will have a community closet in Riebeek-Kasteel for community members to shop for clothing.

In the build-up to the 16 Days the team of victim supporters had a training session on Saturday 11 November at Riebeek West Police station to prepare them for the work ahead.
