In celebration of World Marrow Donor Day (WMDD), the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) will host a donor-registration drive this coming Saturday.
This day is celebrated annually on 3 September to thank stem-cell donors worldwide for their selflessness act.
Apart from thanking donors, the aim of the event is also to raise awareness of the lack of stem-cell donors in SA and the impact a transplant can have on a patient’s life.
Those between ages 16 and 45 who are in good health are encouraged to sign up.
Sign up online at www.sabmr.co.za.
Monetary donations towards the SABMR’s Patient Assistance Programme will also help to ease the financial burden on patients and their families. Limited-edition keyrings and dog tags are available to buy, to raise funds.
