In two separate incidents on Sunday 15 January, Moorreesburg police officials arrested suspects for dealing in drugs.
At 15:30 officials received information about a suspicious-looking vehicle on the N7 heading towards Moorreesburg possibly transporting drugs.
At the Weighbridge the vehicle was pulled to the side of the road, and on further investigation police officials seized 10 sealed parcels of cannabis (dagga). A 19-year-old suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs.
That night, at 21:30, police were summoned to assist provincial traffic at Bottelfontein Road after a heavy motor vehicle had experienced mechanical failure and was stationary.
When approaching the scene a white Ford bakkie sped off in the direction of the R311 Riebeek Road. Officials gave chase and saw a plastic bag being thrown out the window of the vehicle.
The officers managed to stop the vehicle and, on further investigation, found 479 Mandrax tablets with a street value of R19 160 in the plastic bag. The police arrested the suspect, aged 43.
Both suspects appeared in the Moorreesburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 18 January.
Moorreesburg Station Commander Lt Colonel Albertus Conradie applauded the police officers for their excellent work.
