The youth of Bonnievale are claiming their town back.

This was the message on Youth Day, 16 June, when the Bonnievale Youth Desk mobilised the local youth into the streets of Happy Valley to march as a demonstration of their significance as a constituency with its own integrity and influence on crucial matters in the public domain.

The town’s police assisted as the church leaders marshalled the youth as they proceeded. Their march preceded a youth conference that took place at Bonnievale AFM church in Milner Street.

Members of the community welcomed the initiative and church leaders announced their wish to invest in the youth by involving them in the spiritual life of the town, with activities that will take place on a monthly basis. This initiative will form part of crime prevention and motivation to the community leaders of tomorrow.

The Vispol commander, Warrant Officer Theuns du Toit, played a very active part in this campaign, hosted by his congregation. It was a partnership between church leaders, Bonnievale police and the New Breed Empowerment NGO.
